General Guide only.......... for October

    Pheasants

    - all states

  • Be sure to collect the eggs as soon as possible after laying to avoid exposure to the hot sun at this time of year. Store them in a cool place and turn regularly.

  • If the mother isn't sitting, set the eggs in your incubator or under bantams no later than 10 days after being laid.

  • You should definitely have some little chicks by now.

  • Their diet needs to be high in protein; turkey starter, boiled egg or live-food, and some greens.

  • If you wish to put closed leg-bands on your young stock, you will have to start putting them on soon (at roughly 6 weeks of age), otherwise you won't get them on.

  • All of the pheasants should be laying by now.

    Waterfowl

    - northern states

  • Mandarins should be at peek breeding.

    - southern states

  • should still be at peak  breeding for all waterfowl.

  • will likely be raring baby waterfowl.
