Maintain your bird's high-protein
diet.

Give cages a rake out and provide
bushy melaleuca branches or similar, for the hens to lay amongst. They prefer
to lay in a secluded spot rather than in the open. Also, if the eggs are
hidden amongst the brush, there is less chance of the male bird eating the eggs, which can be a problem with some pheasants.

If necessary, check your birds for lice
again before breeding time, particularly if you have a lot of native birds
visiting your property.
