General Guide only.......... for September

    Pheasants

    - all states

  • Most of the pheasants start laying this month, so make sure their diet is adequate for the breeding season.

  • As the weather is reasonably hot already, be sure to collect eggs as soon as possible after being laid and store them in a cool place, turning daily.

  • Keep an eye on species like Swinhoe and Kalij as the cock bird can be quite aggressive towards their hens.

  • You may have some little pheasants hatched towards the end of this month.

  • Make sure they have a high-protein diet in the form of turkey starter, boiled egg or live-food and some greens, for the new chicks.

    Waterfowl

    - northern states

  •   Mandarins & mountain Waterfowl should be breeding.

     - southern states

  • should be at peak  breeding through to October for all waterfowl.
